Iceoryx2 on iPadOS: what are the blockers?

Hi,

Thank you for iceoryx2!

We’re starting a new Rust project that runs on Linux.
We’re thinking about iPad support and would like to know what problems we’d hit running iceoryx2 on iPadOS.

What we use today

  • ipc_threadsafe
  • Publish-subscribe
  • An event service - we register the listener’s file descriptor with tokio[1].

Would local_threadsafe be a drop-in replacement for the above?
Are there any risks?

[1] Awaiting a Listener in tokio

In general local_threadsafe should work on nearly every platform since it does not use any of the usual syscalls that are normally sandboxed and are unavailable.

We did not yet actively invest to much time into iPadOS since no customer has requested it until now. But we would be happy to port iceoryx2 to iPadOS but this would require that a company would hire us (ekxide.io) and sponsor the feature. This is how we finance the open source development of iceoryx2 so such a funding would be very much appreciated.

Another option would be, that the community tackles the challenge and ports iceoryx2 to this platform, but this could be a bit cumbersome.

Thank you for the info!
We will take this into consideration if we decide to have iPadOS support.
